Surgery

At Malvern Veterinary Hospital we practice strict standards for sterility in all of our procedures. The picture below was unplanned during a routine surgery. Note the surgeon is fully gowned and gloved and wearing a cap and mask. All drapes, gowns, and packs (including instruments) are autoclaved. All sterile procedures are carried out in a separate purpose built surgery room. No corners are cut. This is what you should expect from all veterinary practices. This is what you can expect from an ASAVA Accredited "HOSPITAL OF EXCELLENCE."

Sterility is important - but so is the safety of the anaesthetic. The only gaseous anaesthetic used at Melvern Veterinary Hospital is isofluorane. Isofluorane may cost us a lot more - but it is the safest available and we will use nothing less. All patients undergoing general gaseous anaesthesia are monitored throughout the surgery by trained staff using instruments to monitor respiration, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate. At the first sign of any problem we are alerted well prior to a critical situation arising, thus giving time for appropriate action to be taken.

Another issue that is very important to our surgeons is pain control. All surgical procedures require some form of pain control. It is routine procedure at our practice for all animals undergoing surgery to receive pain control. the amount, type and duration is tapered according to individual needs and the type of procedure performed.

All surgical procedures requiring general anaesthesia will require food and water restriction. If your pet has shown any unusual behavior or distress prior to surgery be sure to let the admitting staff know. If you have any additional questions at this time our trained staff will help. Be sure to arrive with your dog securely on a leash or your cat in a secure carrier cage. Remember to leave a contact phone number for that day. All animals are treated with respect and compassion, because everyone who works at Malvern Vet is an animal lover.
